What is a "Peristaltic Pump"? How does it work?
Peristaltic pumps use a flexible tubing that is compressed by rollers, and the more often the motor turns, the more liquid is moved and the more flow you get per hour. In our pumps, tension of the mechanism stretches the tubing over the rollers, so that as the roller assembly turns, the liquid is pumped - it's very similar to getting toothpaste out of the tube.

Do I have to put the liquid above the pump?
Absolutely not! The pump will draw the liquid up from a container up to 3 feet below the pump, and will pump up at least 10 feet.

How long does the tubing last? Is it expensive?
The two-channel tubing will last about 6 months, naturally depending upon the dosiing rate. The high volume tubing should last indefinitely; at least 3 years. Replacement 2-channel tubing sells for $2/foot, and the high volume set is available complete for $15..

I have to pump the liquid from the basement. Does the pump put out enough pressure?
The optimum position for the pump is within about 5 feet of the output of the pump. With the high-volume tubing set, a 10 foot vertical pump height would not be excessive, but with the two-channel set it would be pushing the limits of the soft silicone tubing.

How long does the internal battery backup last?
After it's fully charged, the internal battery should keep the pump going for at least an hour, and often quite a bit longer Naturally variables such as rate setting, age of battery etc. affect the result..

Can I put a timer on the pump to only dose at night? Can I hook it to a float switch?
Yes! There is an a/c control-adapter available for The Sentry to enable remote on/off operation, either by using a pH controller or a timer.. There's also a float switch assembly.available. See the accessories page..

What does your "darkness sensor" do?
The darkness sensor is a photocell mounted in a suction cup. By attaching the assembly to the aquarium wall and plugging it into the pump, it's easy to make The Sentry pump only at night. When the aquarium lights go out, the pump will start pumping. When the lights go back on, the pump will stop. The Sentry will pump at the rate digitally set on the display.

How does the float switch work?
The float switch plugs into the same jack as the darkness sensor. When the liquid level rises above the set point, the float switch shuts off the pump, but the display stays on. .
